There were a number of dignitaries in attendance, including one gentleman who had landed with allied forces in Normandy on D-Day. New York District IV Director, Barbara Green, is pictured in center of the photo below, to her left is Deborah Gifford, and to her left is our own Linda Mayo.

On June 6, 2009, the chapter was host to the annual House and Garden Tour co-sponsored by the Museum of Rhinebeck History. There was a free continental breakfast at the chapter house where participants picked up tickets and programs. The House and Garden Tour included seven gardens, four interiors, and a lecture on bulbs. A box-lunch was made available to participants.
The turnout was great, the weather was perfect, and the visitors had a great time. People attended from all over the Hudson Valley, New Jersey, New York City, as well two ladies from Massachusettes and Texas who were in the area for an evening wedding. Thanks to the Events Committee members for their hard work, and to chapter and museum members who purchased tickets, sold them to friends, baked, provided raffle items, took program ads, and created and paid for the tickets.
May 25, 2009, our chapter marched once again in the Rhinebeck Memorial Day parade.

On a beautiful spring afternoon, April 26, 2009, children ages 7-13 gathered at the chapter house to participate in the first Janet Livingston/Richard Montgomery Treasure Hunt. Children came from Rhinebeck, Red Hook, Pine Plains, and Cold Spring. After a brief history of Richard Montgomery, Janet Livingston, the DAR, and the contest rules, they were on their way to hunt for references related to these former prominent residents. The most ‘treasures’ reported were twenty, with five located at the Rhinebeck Post Office.

The hunt concluded with a short written test and ice cream provided by Stewart’s. The top winners in their age groups, all from Rhinebeck, were awarded a gift card from Village Pizza.
The Chancellor Livingston Chapter, NSDAR, would like to thank Stewart's for donating the ice cream, the Montgomery Post of the American Legion, and the Beekman Arms, for accommodating our contestants without prior notice, and to Post Master Frank Barton and Ellen Hubbard (Deacon of the Reformed Dutch Church) for opening their buildings to accommodate us. Finally, a special thanks to Cathy Washburn for helping our members serve the ice cream.
“What the Flag of the United States Means to Me” was the subject for the NSDAR Flag Essay Contest this year. The contest is held every year and is open to all 5th and 6th graders. The Chancellor Livingston Chapter participates in this activity by mailing letters of instruction to all the local schools. This year there were 46 responses from Red Hook and Rhinebeck schools.

The winning essays belonged to children from schools in Rhinebeck and Red Hook. Awards were given at the chapter meeting held on April 13, 2009.
The 1st Place winner's essay was forwarded to New York State Organization, NSDAR, for the selection of State winner.
Our chapter looks forward to next year and all of the schools’ participants.
At our first meeting of the NSDAR year, in September 2009, two of our members were presented with NSDAR Community Service Awards for their outstanding contributions to the Rhinebeck community throughout the years.
